  • Add the Event to your Calendar: don’t forget to add it to your calendar so you will get reminders
  • Climbing: have fun rock climbing, meet the coaches and volunteers, ask questions and if you are ready sign up to join the team

United Rocks offers competitive rock climbing opportunities. Our committed, enthusiastic and fun rock climbing team serves climbers ages 3+ with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

We offer 4 types of rock climbing:

Auto belay

This is an automatic device that takes up slack as the climber climbs the wall and controls the descent, eradicating the need for a belay partner.

Bouldering

It is all about climbing on shorter walls, without a rope above crash mats.  

Top Roping

It is a type of climbing on longer walls using a fixed rope. The rope runs from the belayer at the bottom of the direction to an anchor system at the top and backs down to the climber.

Lead Climbing

It is climbing on longer walls, without a fixed rope. As the climber goes up, they slide the rope into safety equipment connected to the wall.

Benefits of Rock Climbing

This sport pushes you to your limits and gives you a huge sense of accomplishment. Rock climbing is a low-impact exercise, which means it is easier on your body, particularly your joints, while still being a great full-body workout.

Physical activity has a positive impact on stimulating the brain and improving cognitive function. Rock climbing increases strength, grip, flexibility and endurance.

It can help you develop better hand-eye coordination while increasing your sense of spatial awareness. It can also boost your cognitive and problem-solving skills. It focuses the mind, has meditative effects relieving stress, promotes ambition and personal challenge. 

Promotes Social Interactions

Climbers are very social, they welcome and support new climbers providing a sense of community. Builds confidence, trust and happiness, it also improves communication skills.
